GTYS!

Since tomorrow is Mother's Day, Mannland5 decided to post GTYS today! So I'm going to do it real quick before all my birthday festivities begin!

1. What has been your most memorable Mother's Day? (with your mom, as a mom, or with your wife)
I can't remember which one it was, but it was just me, my mom, my brother and her boyfriend at the time and we went downtown to a cute cafe and had lunch. It was soo nice outside and I just remember it was perfect.

3. What's the oldest thing you have hanging in your closet?
A dress I wore to my uncle's wedding 11 years ago.

4. Do you whiten your teeth?
I don't use whitening kits or strips or anything like that, but I do use a toothpaste that works SOO well. After the first week of using it, I noticed a big change in my teeth and they had gotten a lot whiter! I use Arm and Hammer Complete Care Toothpaste! Go buy it!!

5. Underwear or Panties..What do you call your "unmetionables"?
Panties.

6. If you could go on vacation right now..today..where would you go?
ANYWHERE beachy!! I'm dying to go to the beach. But if I had to choose, Hawaii!!

7. Do you get offended when people cuss on their blogs?
Neh.

8. If you had to give up one luxury item, it would be....?
The tv. I could live without having to watch tv, but I definitely need a car to go everywhere, and I need a phone so I can text Tony all day to keep me sane. :)

A Letter to Me

So, Amber over at The Survival Guide For The Young, Fabulous & Newlywed wrote an awesome post today! It was a letter to her younger self! Since I wish so much that I could go back in time and tell the younger me what not to do, (and to do for that matter) I'm going to write a letter to the younger me!

Younger Courtney,

- Enjoy the 8 years you have while your parents are still married. They will divorce when you are 8 years old, and although it doesn't bother you that much, and you will be living with mom, you won't be able to see your dad as much as you want.

- Don't boss all your friends around on your 8th birthday. Just because it's your birthday doesn't mean you can be bossy to your friends. Enjoy this time because you won't be able to get it back.

- Please, please, please enjoy your life because all too soon it passes you by. Enjoy playing outside with your friends on the swing set and the pool. It will gone before you can blink an eye.

- Middle School is going to be tough because this is when cliques form, and you're not sure where you fit in. You have a few really close friends, and that's all that matters, really.

- Your first kiss is at a dance in 7th grade. You don't know the guy at.all. You meet him that night and fall in lust. You think he is the most beautiful thing and he takes your breath away. You dance to a few songs and he tells you that you have the prettiest smile. You kiss on the bleachers, and it was magical. You do not regret your first kiss later in life because it was perfect. You end up finding out this guy is your brother's friend, and are a little embarrassed. It's ok. Really. Because your brother never finds out, and you really don't talk to the guy anymore. Except maybe 5 times throughout high school and a couple times in your freshman year of college, just to keep in touch.

- Boys aren't worth it in middle school. I know that you had a really, really big crush on (well, let's just call him Paul), but come to find out you really never speak to him after 8th grade.

- You make a really great friend in 8th grade that becomes your best friend for a good 4 years. You guys are always going to be together and she is like you in so many ways. Don't take this for granted, because you eventually grow apart, and end up talking to each other maybe once a week. She's a true friend, so don't take this for granted either.

- You will go on a cruise in December '05 that will bring you and your family a lot closer together. Plus, it will be the most fun you've ever had in your whole 16 years of living.

- You meet the first guy that you have ever had feelings for at the YMCA pool when you are 13 years old. You and your best friend talk about him nonstop and basically stare at him every time he gets out of the pool and onto the diving board to dive off. He has a nice body, and nice hair. You basically drool over for him a good hour before getting the nerve to go talk to him. You go talk to him for awhile and find out his name is (lets call him J). He gives you his number and you are speechless and head over heels. It takes you awhile to call him, but when you finally did, he was so excited. He asks you to come over to have dinner with his family, and you do. Take in the moment. Really. Before dinner you guys watch tv in his room and you are in looooove. You stare at him, and you guys share you first kiss. It is pure magic. Don't get too lost in his big brown eyes because it's not going to last. You guys date for a month and he leaves you for another girl. You are heartbroken. Seriously, for years. You thought this was the guy you were going to marry. Just, don't take it too serious, please.

- Have fun in high school, you will want those easy-going years back when you get into college. And please, go to school and don't skip! And please, please study. Just do it. It will be worth it.

- Don't quit your job at the daycare because it will be crazy hard for you to find another job, especially one like the daycare with people who were so nice.

- You're going to meet an older guy named Tony. At first, you're really not looking for anything serious (since you aren't really a commitment type of girl) and then after knowing him for a good couple months, you realize that this man is the sweetest, smartest, most handsome man that you've ever met. You then realize he could be the guy standing next to you at the alter, the delivery room, and many, many other places.

- One last thing, younger Court, don't take your family for granted.

Getting to know YOU Sunday!

It's Sunday! You know what that means...

1. What color do you wear the most?
I really don't wear just one color the most. I wear a lot of blacks, blues, and pinks.

2. Would you rather have $10,000 dollars or a dream vacation?
$10,000 for sure! Then I can use it for whatever I want.

3. Do you have a weird, quirky or unusual habit?
Kind of. I have to pee right before I get in bed..like, right before. If I just peed, and then sat down on my computer for 5 minutes, then decided to go to sleep, I have to go pee before I do.. Weird?!

4. I really need to start..........?
Not putting things off! I procrastinate REALLY REALLY badly, and it's not good. Seriously.

5. What was the first blog you ever read?
A girl on facebook who was pregnant and I was looking at her info and under 'websites' was a link to her blog.

6. Do you collect anything?
Not anymore, really. I used to collect ticket stubs. Maybe I will start doing that again.

7. How old were you when you had your first kiss?
12 years old. At a dance.

8. Do you text/twitter while driving?
Guilty. I've been trying really hard to stop though! I'm trying to just text at stoplights now.

Ten on Tuesday

1. If you could travel back in time, would you? What decade would you visit?
I'd love to travel back in time! I think I would visit the 1950's. I'd love to wear poodle skirts and dance those crazy dances! :)

2. What was your best Halloween costume? (fun to make? most creative?)
My most favorite Halloween costume was a Genie. I had the whole outfit going. Although I don't have a picture of that costume on my computer, it looked very similar to this!

3. Do you like your name? If you weren't called by your name, what would you want to be called?
I do like my name. My mom chose wisely. Actually, my dad did. My mom wanted to name me Aubrey and my dad wanted to name me Courtney.Obviously they agreed upon Courtney.

4. In the past year, what is the BEST recipe you made. Please share it!
It was a baked cajun macaroni and cheese casserole. It was a perfect combination of cheese and spicy! Tony LOVED it also! :) Unfortunately, I cannot find the recipe again. We have looked everywhere on the internet, because that's where we found it in the first place, and it's nowhere to be found. But if I do find it, I will most definitely post it!!

5. Look around – what is the nearest object or picture hanging on the wall?
Actually a collage of pictures of me, my family, and my friends.

6. What was the last movie you saw in a theater? Would you recommend it?
Avatar. I'd highly recommend it! Very, very good movie.

7. Did you go to summer camp? Will you/do you send your kids to camp?
Nope. Never went. I just spent my summers with my friends, running through sprinklers, swimming at the pool, drawing with chalk on the driveway, playing on the swingset, eating popsicles..Some of the best summers ever. I'm not against people sending their kids to camp, but I personally don't want to send my future kids. Just cause hopefully I will be able to stay home and play with them. Plus, hopefully they will get to expierence the summers I did.

8. What kind of ringtone do you have?
Just a standard ringtone that came with the phone. I know, I know..So original!

9. Where is the farthest away from home you have ever been?
Puerto Rico! I went on a cruise there and St. Johns and St. Thomas back in December '05 with my whole dad's side of the family. It was a family reunion type of thing. The best trip I've ever been on! I'm half puerto-rican(my dad is 100%) and so it was neat to see my native land! Haha! Here's a few pics from that trip..

From left to right: My cousin Zack, Zack's sister and my cousin Alicia, me, and my stepbrother, Tayler.

Please note, this was a little over 4 years ago. So I was 16 yrs old.

My stepsister, Sarah, and me. She was 12 years old there.

The bar area on the ship.

Puerto Rico! Beautiful, isn't it?

There were cats EVERYWHERE

Our ship!

10. Has anyone ever written a song or a poem for or about you?
Not that I know of! Haha. An old boyfriend decicated a song to me.. But that's about the extent of it.

My journey with the weight on my shoulders...

I really didn't care about what I ate or how much I exercised when I was younger.

I could eat whatever I wanted and not really worry about gaining any lbs. I could go out with my friends and order a burger and fries and not think twice about it.

My mom and I belonged to LA Fitness and I would go every once in a while for fun. I would go with my mom when I was bored, to give me somethin' to do.

Sometimes I would go because "everyone else was doing it".

Most of the time, I would just go to gaze at the guys.

I never thought I was "fat", per se, but my thighs and butt were a little bigger than I'd like them to be.

Now, when I look back at the pictures from about 12 yrs old to 16 yrs old, I must have been crazy to not like my body.

So, little did I know that all of the junk food eating and not exercising would catch up with me.

In late 2006 I started eating a little more than usual. I had great friends, a great family, but I just felt I was missing something. So I ate and didn't work out.

It all really caught up with me fast. The next time I stepped on the scale, I had gained 45 lbs. My mom thought it was a little odd that it crept up on me so fast. So we went to an endocrinologist to get my thyroid checked out. My TSH levels were really high. Not good. So, I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism.

This wasn't helping my weight gain AT ALL. It only made it worse.

So, a lot of stuff went on with my thyroid, and let's just say I didn't take care of it until July '09. We'll discuss this later.

So, I knew that I was overweight, but I just didn't have the motivation to do anything about it. I know how to lose weight, I know what to eat and what not to eat and I know how to work out right. I just didn't have that motivation.

In November '07, I had family pictures done with my stepmom, dad, stepsister, stepbrother, and brother. When we got the pictures back I saw myself and literally started crying. I couldn't believe I looked like that. I knew I had to do something about it.

So, my mom signed me up for Weight Watchers. I went to the weekly meetings, counted points, exercised, and lost 10 lbs. I was off to a good start, but for some reason I just lost motivation.

So I cancelled my membership and gained the 10 lbs back. I hated taking pictures of myself and I hated people taking pictures of myself. I hated looking at myself. I was disgusted.

In the summer of '08, me and a friend decided we wanted to lose weight together. We started in early June. I worked out 5-6 days a week and I ate chicken, veggies and fruit 5 days a week. On Saturday's and sometimes Friday's, me and this friend would eat so much junk food. Apparently we thought it was ok to eat right throught the week, but then gorge ourselves on the weekend.

But, I was still losing weight. (for some odd reason that I'm still not sure of)

I lost 10 lbs in a month doing it that way. I went on a family vacation at the end of June to Florida and ate everything in site, and worked out once.

I gained about 3 lbs back and when I came back from Florida, I just couldn't mind the motivation to keep going. My friend and I didn't hang out as much, so that didn't help.

Fast forward to Nov '08. I was still miserable about the way I looked and I never wore form-fitting clothing.

In the beginning of Nov' 08, I met my boyfriend now, Tony. (the story of how we met and our first date is saved for another post)

Once I got to know him a little more, about a month in, I told him that I wasn't happy with myself and the way I felt and looked. Little did I know, he was an expert on ways to lose weight.

He told me that it's going to be hard, but it DOES work, and it's all worth it.

He told me how to eat, and what to do for exercise. On December 2, 2008, I started my weight loss journey and my journey to happiness.

I worked out 6 days a week doing circuit training. I did squats, lunges, bench press, sit ups on Monday's and Thursday's, and military press, dead lifts, bench press, lat pull downs, and one arm snatches on Tuesday's and Friday's. For Wednesday and Saturday I would do some cardio.

My diet was low carb. Really low carb. I ate 20 carbs a day. I ate chicken, veggies, low carb tortillas..things like that.

My goal was to lose 40 lbs, at first. I reached my goal on April 12, 2009. It took me a little over 4 months to lose 40 lbs!

Throughout this journey, Tony was by my side. He was so encouraging and supportive. He too had lost 40+ lbs doing the same thing, so he knew what I was dealing with.

When I was 30 lbs down, I finally loved myself, which led me to fall in love with Tony.

I never met a man so supportive and respectful and there for me. I just knew he was "the one" after 4 months of knowing him.

Throughout May - September I gained 10 lbs back. I just was not ready for the real world yet. I didn't have the tools I needed to be able to maintain this weight.

Finally, in September I started to lose the weight again. I had another goal though. I wanted to lose the 10 lbs I gained, plus another 5-10.

On February 14, 2010 Tony and I celebrated our 1 year anniversary.

We also celebrated that I was 51 lbs down since December 2, 2008. I lost 14 lbs since September '09. I was elated. Happy. Excited.

Joyful.

I had FINALLY gotten to my goal and I felt GOOD.

I also fell in love along the way. :)

Now, almost 2 months later, I am the happiest I have ever been in my entire life. I'm not the 15 yr old girl who could eat whatever she wanted and not work out and have the weight creep up on me without knowing. I have kept this weight off for almost 2 months and it's staying off.

I love myself. I know how to maintain my weight.

BUT..

I have made a decision to lose 10-15 more lbs by July.

I made this decision just for my satisfaction. Not because I think I'm fat. I know I'm not. But because I want to be more toned. Tony thinks I look perfect the way I am, but again, he is going to support me.

I want to be a little more toned.

Don't think I don't love myself, or that I'm not happy.

I am. Heck, I've been back and forth with this decision because I love the way I look now, but I wanna be a little more toned up! :)

So, I will be doing a little blogging about that journey. I will be starting in mid-May. After the stress of school, so it will make it easier.

Plus, I'm going to North Carolina mountains for a family reunion in July.

:)

I've never been happier than right now in my life. I love myself, and I've also grown closer with God in this journey. Let's not forget Him.

Thanks for reading this. It was tough for me to write all of this and to get all of this info on me out there in the open.

I appreciate you taking the time. :)

So, on May 10, 2010, 2 days after my 21st birthday I go on another journey to lose 10 lbs! Maybe 15. But let's not get ahead of ourselves!
